The scenery in between

All the faces
in their cars, stopping, going
to and from
look so tired and miserable-
like they are being drug around,
he noticed.
When people walk,
they participate in the traveling.

Going Places,
she said
Look at him,
now he's going somewhere
and his air was lighter
the wind was with him
as they say.

Have you walked anywhere
without a destination,
and seen what's between
point B and A
(where are those located anyway)?

This thing stumbled upon
called ambling along-
not to ramble on too long
but wandering is no easy thing-
thankfully though,
it requires no licensed training.
Practice, yes,
lots of pedestrian practice,
yet even pacing is prior
enough preparation
for lack of destination.

The art of the amble:
when out walking
in a leisurely way
one can confidently say
I went somewhere today
without a point.

Linger to hear you near

I am
listen-
in
g
hiding
in the music
tapping
my shoulder
blade behind me
down
the hall
jumping out
at the antique
store
always
waiting
buried in a book
obscure
wrapping up
in warm words
under
lines

Cannons
re-loaded
taking the heat
under
fire-
gun to temple
questioning
fore-
head
drops
(off...)
taking it all
in
I am
listen-
in
g
for
you.

Ether Between (or a part)

The known is seen
when the pine cones breathe
even severed and separate,
opening in the sun as though
still
a flower.

And about the rainbow
trout, whose beating heart
placed in my hands
after it had been filleted
and gutted, throbbing
as though
despite this piercing act
that still
held power.

The birds neck cranes
before it snaps
limp, little legs stiff
yet it is an act, to relax
the cat only to escape
still
prey
to become devoured.

While a chicken,
it is well known,
hurries for pecking order
placement though far
removed from body.
It runs frantically,
unable to keep its head
still
it cannot see.

The sudden shudder
a desperate gasp,
noticing the sky,
a place to ponder, a rest stop,
a moments notice pends
on eternity, the energy
still
suspended and supposing
nobody will notice
what you do not have.
